Application Process & Interviews at AboitizPower

The interview was smooth and quite challenging. Assessments are also provided which includes personality and technical ones.

It was the most hassle-free hiring process I have ever experienced since it didn't take me 1 week to get hired. I also knew that I was the last person to get hired as a Cadet Engineer here in TVI.

First, I was asked to answer a short online exam. After that, I had a short interview call with a Recruitment Operations Specialist. Lastly, I was interview by the Hiring Manager.

One assessment before the two interview is needed. Hiring process was fast and effective.

The interview is very fair because they really consider top talents and not based in backer. The process was also smooth. However, I was not informed 1 month ahead of the onboarding date. I was late in the cadetship program by two weeks.

The interview phase for me was very quick as I sent my resume last March 9, and received a reply by March 15. Then from 16 to 18, had my interview with HR, Technical Training Manager, Assistant VP for Technical Services, and Senior VP for Operations, respectively.

The interview process was really fun, I was not intimidated by our HR and Supervisor during my first and second interview. I really locked in my choice of going with AboitizPower because I felt that the interviewers were very welcoming and I felt that I am respected and important for the company. I felt that not all companies give their possible new hires this appreciation and motivation.

It was very polite and well spoken. The interviews were well representative of the culture and professionalism of the company

I saw a post of a vacancy in social media. I contacted the person and gave me instructions to email my application to the human resource. An online assessment was given to me. I received feedback through email, I was qualified for preliminary interview. The preliminary interview was conducted by the Talent Attraction through virtual meeting. Then proceeded to the technical interview with the Cadetship Administrator, Maintenance Manager, Operations Supervisor, and Mechanical Supervisor through virtual meeting. It was then followed with virtual meetings with the Talent Attraction HR to guide me in further hiring process for the requirements until the start of work day 1.

Personal questions and some technical questions.

The questions were both personal and technical. This include a self-introduction, how I heard about the job hiring, and why I decided to apply to the company. I was asked regarding my academic achievements, hypothetical scenarios, and my goals. Lastly, I discussed an overview regarding the power plant operation.

Notable questions I have encountered are the following: - How do I define stress and how I cope up from it. - What is unique about me that sets me apart from other candidates.

Who am I as a person. What was my thesis all about. How does a Binary Geothermal Power Plant Work. How did I show innovation in and beyond academics. How do I handle misunderstandings within a team. What can they expect from me. How did I hear about the company.

My background, my behavior, my skills, and my willingness to learn and work for them

In the preliminary interview, I was asked about myself, my aspirations, what's my view regarding the company, my values, and about my experiences. In the technical interview, I was asked about the basic technicality of my job, it was about the basic process of the power plant, I was also asked about what I can offer and commit to the job, and what are my experience in leadership, among other questions given.

Question asked were personal information, our strength and weaknesses, and our reason why we chose the company.

I was asked to introduce myself, and also I was asked on situational questions such as about leadership and my personal career aspirations. This also gave me the security, that with this company my personal and career growth is secured because they value learning and growth. I was also asked about my experiences in my OJT during my undergraduate days, and also a few technical problems relating to the powerplant industry.

They need to allot time in understanding the company and its mission. Also, they should be patient since the recruitment or hiring process may take weeks or a month to complete.

They should prepare answers to common interview questions and review on the fundamentals of a coal-fired power plant.

Learn how a coal-fired power plant operates since knowing its overview is the key to understanding the whole system.

Prepare your resumes ahead of time and quantify your contributions in the university i.e. student organization and academics and briefly tell the soft skills garnered from the experience because my thought was I need to showcase the soft skills companies are looking for through the experience I got from when I was in Uni.

I think for people applying for cadet engineer in AboitizPower, the best way to prepare yourself is to make sure that you are willing and want to learn and grow. Because as our supervisor said, it is not much about your current knowledge and intelligence but the willingness to learn and grow with the cadetship program which allowed me to pass the interview. So for other applicants, I suggest that not only they build the confidence in their technical skills, but also they need to have that fire of continuous learning in them.

I would like them to peel of their mask and be comfortable of showing their true selves and not be worried about it. Our company is very particular of personality and passion more so than skills or experience.

1. Be yourself, this was also a tip given to me by an employee I know in the company. 2. Read/Research/Know about your company and about your job to have an idea on what one can commit to. 3. It is never not bad to overprepare. Give your best. Comply with the requirements, and try to exceed, if not satisfy expectations. Be "magis", to embody and always do more than required. 4. Be honest. One's integrity is one's dignity. Value and be proud of your dignity.

My advice is to be honest when answering and always give the best.

They should be equipped with enough knowledge in the boiler systems and practice for common interview questions. They should remain calm and be sincere with their answers.
