We are looking for candidates who are in their final year of study to join our team as Graduates in early 2022. We also have the opportunity to join earlier on a part-time basis while you complete your studies. If this sounds like you, please submit an application!

As a Graduate Consultant, you will get the opportunity to work across a multitude of industries and organisations. You will spend significant time with clients to understand their business problems and advise on processes gaps and improvement opportunities. This involves:
- Contributing to the planning and scoping stage of the project;
- Documenting and forming a point of view on matters discussed in meetings;
- Conducting fieldwork to understand the business problems;
- Preparing findings and creating client deliverables.

Protiviti Melbourne's consulting solutions span critical business problems in Technology, Internal Audit and Financial Advisory (IAFA), and Risk and Compliance. Depending on client demand and staffing availability, you may gain exposure to projects across one or more of these consulting solutions:

Risk and Compliance:

Risk and Compliance (R&C) engagements aim to partner with management, board members and outside counsel to help organisations comply with regulatory requirements, respond to situations of non-compliance, and improve the processes around information systems supporting governance, risk and compliance (GRC). A typical Risk and Compliance engagement will involve:
- Reviewing and assessing legislation and regulatory requirements;
- Developing effective compliance monitoring solutions;
- Assisting the client to take a disciplined approach in managing risks through a combination of assessments, process improvement, and model validation and review.

Technology Consulting:

Technology Consulting (TC) practices help our clients to design and implement advanced solutions in technology strategy, cloud solutions, IT governance, security, data management, applications, compliance and much more. A typical IT consulting engagement will involve:

  • Analysing an organisation's data and interviewing stakeholders to develop strategic advice on technology to achieve business goals, improve business processes, reduce risk or maximising use of technology opportunities.
  • Determining information system requirements and defining project objectives; and
  • Making recommendations, such as implementation of specialised systems or redesign of processes

Internal Audit and Financial Advisory:

Internal Audit and Financial Advisory (IAFA) is an independent assurance and consulting activity that improves an organisation's operations by evaluating and improving risk management, controls and governance processes. A typical IAFA engagement will involve:

  • Researching better practice and examining the efficacy of procedures;
  • Creating process maps to better visualise processes and suggest improvements; and
  • Developing risk and controls matrices to understand how different business processes are governed.

As Consultants progress in their careers, the focus shifts from gaining transferable experience to specialising in an industry or solution. We are committed to attracting and developing a diverse workforce of professionals that share the common value of collaboration.

As a Senior Consultant, I meet clients, hold walkthroughs, take notes and liaise with clients for documentation and other requests. I also work closely with my engagement manager and am guided by them.

As mentioned earlier, I like the variety, it changes each day and there is always a chance to learn new skills and have new experiences and to mentor others. One day I could be doing data analytics work and creating client deliverables and the next I could be facilitating workshops.

Pros and cons of working at Protiviti

Pros

  • My co-workers have been great. Senior staff are willing to teach and help upskill me. The culture is great as I personally find a nice balance of personal/ professional.

  • The best thing about working at Protiviti is the tremendous support and camaraderie that is present among the team. Protiviti is an enabler for innovation, excellence, and most importantly, curiosity. There is no such thing as a bad question, and my team has helped me achieve my goals in an extraordinary manner. Moreover, this inclusivity is shown in the genuine connections that I have formed already, and the compassion that each one of my co-workers shows one another. I truly believe that working for Protiviti is like working in a tight-knit and close team, with this being not only a national office but an international office too - which opens the door for many more opportunities and connections.

  • The exposure to both private and government clients and being in a smaller team allows you to have more responsibility/be more involved at a junior level. I also think our workplace is unique in that we have the ability as junior staff to develop a strong rapport with and work closely or directly with Directors etc. This has been a great learning experience.

  • Protiviti's culture is what sets it apart from other workplaces. As a grad, you get opportunities to take on challenges and responsibilities that you wouldn't get elsewhere due to the firm's size. The management really cares about employees' well-being, career growth, and goals. This is seen in the work-life balance, career advisor program, and active role that even Managing Directors take in supporting grads to pursue areas of interest and passion.

  • The best thing about Protiviti is the people and the culture! I joined Protiviti as a graduate and the company really stood out to me throughout the recruitment process as all the staff involved were so friendly and helpful. I felt very welcomed once I started with Protiviti and felt comfortable approaching colleagues for help and for a chat - even the most senior staff members.

Cons

    • The global nature of the company makes it difficult to participate in events and projects run in other countries. Eg. Sustainability Club events run in an American timezone - this is not the companies fault but rather the price of living in Australia

    • The worst thing is the size of the branch. I would love to see the size of the office continue to grow and see more people enjoy working at this company.

    • Sometimes you are given projects that may not align with your solution or interests. Although it is good to develop skills in multiple areas, and with multiple different stakeholders it can limit some progression if you are booked for projects that aren't within your solution or may not align with your interests/passions

    • This is not Protiviti specific, it is great to work at a global company, however, one disadvantage to this is that global calls and groups often have meetings and workshops at odd times for the AEDT/AEST timezone eg. 3.00 am

    • If I really had to choose, I would say the pay but I honestly wouldn't go anywhere else as the work culture and the work-life balance that I get at Protiviti is not offered by any other company.
