What do our Graduate Civil Engineers do? 

As a Graduate Civil Engineer based in Stantec’s Queenstown office, you will experience a generalist approach to civil engineering with exposure to a wide range of disciplines including water/wastewater/stormwater, structures, geotechnical, transport, and land development. You will contribute to providing designs, calculations, reporting, construction monitoring, and advice for our clients around the region and nationally.  

This will enable you to learn the “big picture” of projects and how all the individual disciplines fit in and work together. In addition, you will also gain an understanding of the design process from a consultancy side, and know the general steps required to take a project from concept right through to construction documentation followed by construction contract management.  

Some of the exciting projects our Queenstown team is working on: 

  • Transport safety improvements throughout the district 
  • Land development and community enhancement  
  • Water/wastewater/stormwater upgrades and renewals 
  • Skifield infrastructure from chairlifts through to wastewater treatment 
  • New and upgrades of cycle trails throughout the district 
  • Recreation structures (such as bridges, huts, viewing platform) and supporting infrastructure (such as toilets/wastewater management) in remote locations throughout New Zealand 

What you will bring 

You will be a recent graduate with a Civil Engineering tertiary qualification ready to kick start your professional engineering career! You are motivated, pragmatic, and have an appetite for learning and gaining experience across various disciplines.  

You will have a strong interest in water engineering, and as we are to improving the world we live in, seizing the environmental challenges that we all face and coming up with solutions that will benefit generations to come.

To be eligible to apply you must: 

  • Be a recent graduate or due to complete your tertiary education in 2024 
  • Preferably have a current restricted or full driving licence 
  • Working Rights in New Zealand (Student Visa holder, convertible to post study open work visa, Permanent Resident OR Citizen)
