Commencing the day with a scenic drive to work, followed by a refreshing stroll through Hagley Park, my workday unfolds with tasks in lighting design for a mental health hospital.
The work I do at Kāinga Ora is for their Retrofit Program, and I spend most of every Thursday morning preparing for the weekly meetings we have with one of the contractors we’re partnered with.
From what I learned as a young professional is that all the technical skills can be learned and as long as you have the character to move forward, any job is for you to conquer!
The exposure to regional counterparts, local business leads and a great group of third parties has allowed me to see the different perspectives from each.
The thing I love most about my job is that there is a sense of ownership from the implementations that are made to the processing plant as a result of my actions.
I am currently undertaking construction monitoring on a new infrastructure project in Tauranga. Today I will be visiting two areas onsite to witness pavement preparation and to observe embankment construction.
One piece of advice I would give to someone interested in a career in infrastructure and engineering would be to try as many different aspects of the industry as possible.
